Much branched, spreading, caespitose shrub with stiff, erect twigs. Bark furrowed, orange-brown. Young stems dark purplish pink, darkly pubescent, somewhat compressed. Buds covered with scales. Leaves 1.5 - 8 x 1- 4.3 cm, narrowly elliptic to broadly elliptic to ovate to obovate, obtuse or acute and bluntly apiculate at the apex, rounded to acute at the base, reflexed at edges, serrate, hard, stiff, coriaceous, glabrous, bright green above, light green and glaucous, with scattered dark brown sunken glands beneath; veins impressed and lighter than lamina above, prominent and darker than lamina beneath; young leaves reddish beneath. Petiole to c. 7 mm long, channelled above, c. 2 mm thick, red. Racemes in the axils of some of the upper leaves, to c. 5 cm long, drooping and somewhat recurved at their ends, bearing to c. 15 flowers. Pedicel c. 5 mm long, with bract c. 3 mm long at the base and 2 opposite bracteoles 1.5-2 mm long about the middle. Flowers pendent. Inflorescence axis and pedicels densely shortly pilose, white. Calyx greenish white, segments 3-4 mm long, deltoid, acute, ciliate. Corolla tube urceolate, 5-7 mm long, 4-5 mm broad, white, with scattered hairs within, lobes 5, c. 1 mm long, reflexed. Stamens 10. Filaments c. 1.5 mm long, white, flattened, narrow at base and upper half, dilated below the middle, short-pubescent. Connective prolonged, and with patches of white disintegration tissue abaxially. Anthers c. 1 mm long, orange-brown, opening by 2 slits at the apex, each anther-half bearing two 1 mm long, narrow, pointed, reflexed, yellowish brown spurs (awns) at the apex. Ovary superior, densely downy, 5-lobed, light green. Style 2 mm long, columnar, purplish at the apex. Stigma shortly 5-lobed, hollowed at apex. Capsule c. 5 mm broad, covered with white hairs, completely enclosed in fleshy enlarged calyx, the whole 8-10 mm broad, deep purplish blue when ripe, with a red stalk. Seeds angular, ovoid, c. 0.5 mm broad. (FOC)
