Twining, slender, perennial shrub (liane) with a woody base and glabrous stems. Leaves are alternate and entire, with petioles 0.5–1.5 cm long. The leaf blade is highly variable in shape, ranging from linear-lanceolate to obovate, and measures 3–18.5 cm in length. It is characterized by being 3-nerved from the base, having a glabrous surface, a shortly truncate base, and an acute to acuminate apex. Flowers are irregular, bisexual, and arranged in axillary corymbs of 4–10; the pedicels are 0.5–1.5 cm long and become swollen toward the apex. Each flower is accompanied by a sessile, ovate bract with an acuminate tip.
