Large trees reaching up to 25 m in height, characterized by numerous spreading branches and a thick, rough, grayish-yellow bark. The leaves are odd-pinnate and broadly obovate to obovate-oblong in outline. They typically bear 5–9 leaflets which are elliptical-oblong, 3–11 cm long, and 2.5–5 cm broad. The leaflet base is acute, obtuse, or oblique, the margins are entire, and the apex is narrowly caudate and glabrous.The inflorescence is a lax, many-flowered terminal or lateral panicle. Flowers are small (less than 3 cm long) with a small, campanulate, 3–5 lobed calyx. The septum of the fruit is thickened, subterete, corky, and notched. The seeds are trigonous, featuring a deep transverse furrow across the centre, and are embedded in the notches of the septum; they are further distinguished by being membranous-winged at each end.
