Slender perennial herbaceous plant, 25–50 cm tall; stems caulescent, glabrous, and often glaucous. Leaves oblong to linear, 3–12 cm long, 0.5–1 cm broad, with an acuminate apex; basal leaves have sheathing petioles, while cauline leaves are sessile and clasping, auriculate, or perfoliate. Inflorescence a loose, regularly compound umbel with terminal and lateral sympodial peduncles; involucral bracts are foliaceous and conspicuous. Fruit has a carpophore that is 2-cleft to the base; seeds are subterete in transection with a usually plane face.
