Crinum asiaticum L.

Plant up to 2 m tall; bulb 5–15 cm broad, narrowed into a cylindrical false stem to 50 cm long and 15 cm broad, clothed with old leaf-sheaths. Leaves 20–30, 90–195 x 10–22 cm, the lower horizontal, the upper semi-erect, distinctly parallel-veined, very narrowly lanceolate or narrowly lanceolate, shortly acuminate, coriaceous, bright green, with smooth, sometimes undulate, margins; blade flat but distinctly channelled along the middle of the upper surface, narrowed into a sheathing base. Peduncles one or more. Perianth salver-shaped; stamens spreading; flowers opening in the evening, strongly fragrant. Capsule subglobose or obovoid, with a membranous or leathery pericarp dehiscing irregularly. Seeds few, large, green, globose or irregularly compressed; endosperm thick.
