Herb with a rhizome up to 3/4 cm thick, which becomes slenderer in submerged specimens with long internodes. Runners are slender and (5) 10–15 cm long. Leaves have petioles 5–10 (15) cm long; the blade is smoothish, ovate to narrowly ovate, measuring (1) 1.5–3.5 (6) x 3–9 (15) cm. The upper leaf surface is dark green, while the lower surface is paler green with prominent reddish veins; the apex is acute to acuminate, the base is obtuse to truncate, and the margin is entire. The spathe is 5–15 cm long and brownish on the outside. The spathe kettle is 0.7–1.5 cm long, with the upper part of the interior being red-spotted and featuring alveoli covering the upper 1/3 to 1/2 of the surface. The spathe tube is 1.5–8 cm long. The spathe limb is 1.5–3 cm long, twisted and upright to somewhat recurved or flat, and smooth to slightly roughened on the inside; its color is yellow to green with a yellowish-green to brownish collar. The spadix is approximately 1 cm long, bearing 4–7 yellowish to greenish female flowers with subovate stigmas and 40–90 male flowers. Olfactory bodies are rounded and yellowish.
