මීටර් 20 -25 දක්වා උසට අතු පතර විහිදා වැඩෙන වේගවත් වර්ධනයක් දක්වන ශාකයකි. ශක්තිමත් නොවුණත් දැව සහ දර පිණිස භාවිතා කරනු ලබයි. රෝස පැහැයට හුරු කුඩා පුෂ්ප හටගන්නා අතර ඝණකම් ආවරණයක් සහිත කරලක බොහෝ විට තනි බීජයක් පවතී. බීජ පැලවීමේ ප්‍රතිශතය ඉහලයි. ශාකයේ දළු, පොතු, පත්‍ර, මුල් ආදිය ආමාශ රෝග, දන්ත රෝග, සමේ ⁣රෝග, තුවාල ආදියට ඔසු ලෙස භාවිතා වන බව සඳහන්. එමෙන්ම දත් පිරිසිදු කිරීමට දැහැටි දඬු ලෙසද භාවිතා කරයි. කරඳ බීජ වලින් ලබාගත හැකි තෙල් කෘමි විකර්ෂක ලෙස යොදා ගන්නා බවද කියවේ. It is a fast growing plant with spreading branches up to 20-25 m tall. Pink colored flowers are small. In a pod with a thick covering there is often a single seed. Seed germination rate is high. The leaves, bark and roots of the plant are used as a remedy for stomach ailments, dental diseases, skin ailments, wounds etc. It is also used as a toothpick to clean teeth. It is said that the oil obtained from the seeds of the plantain is used as an insect repellent.
