Deciduous or evergreen shrubs, trees or stragglers up to 20 m tall, branchlets sometimes spiny, tomentose or glabrescent. Leaves simple, alternate, exstipulate, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, 8-18 x 2.3-7 cm, chartaceous to subcoriaceous, glabrescent, apex obtuse, base cuneate, margin entire. Inflorescence subsessile, densly tomentose, often in clusters, sometimes single, pedicels 2-8 mm. Flowers pale yellow or cream, 2-3 cm long. Calyx tube short, c. 2.5 mm long, lobes 5-10-toothed. Petals 4-10, linear-oblong, 1.5-3 cm long, more tomentose outside than inside. Stamens 10-30, filaments 0.5-1 cm long. Stigma capitate. Disc lobed. Fruit a subglobose drupe, 9-24 x 6-16 mm, bright red when ripe. (FOC)
