Oncosperma fasciculatum Thwaites

Tall, usually clustered, spiny palm with stems reaching 8–20 m in height and 12–15 cm in diameter. The stems are erect, ringed with leaf scars, and copiously armed with black, compressed spines measuring 3.5–4 cm long, which tend to erode with age. Occasionally, the stems may exhibit aerial branching. Leaves are reduplicately pinnate with very numerous, single-fold leaflets that are acute or acuminate. The leaf sheaths are armed and tubular, forming a distinct crownshaft. The petiole is densely armed with spines and covered with indumentum.
